Deadend Exclusive

A few years ago (maybe 3 or 4) Darryl Garcia at Color Tech (the guy who screened our last batch of shirts) made us a few Deadend shirt samples... Here's one that was never mass produced... There's only one in the world...

Looks good don't it?

Deadend Republic

Welcome to the Republic of Deadend Magazine.

We are very proud to introduce our latest t-shirt design, it is our version of the California flag. It will be available at our booth at the Primer Nationals in Ventura this weekend. We will be introducing a few other new shirt designs soon. We hope you like our new shirt as much as we do, we have not been so excited about a shirt since we introduced our very first one ("If you didnt build it dont cruise it" which we will re-printing soon)

No Particular Place to Go..

Yeah car shows are cool, racing is real nice.... but here at Deadend Magazine what we like most about our "hobby" is CRUISING!

Some folks down in Southern California have come together to bring back Cruising to Van Nuys Blvd.

Be There!

The Grain

When we first started Deadend (over 5 years ago) we had no idea what we were doing, we just knew photographers were expensive and we couldn't afford one. So we did what we could with what we had. We shot with a nice film Canon camera, an old film Canon camera and a cheap 3 megapixel point & shoot digital camera.

The old Canon camera stopped working a couple years ago. The cheap digital camera was obsolete when we got it, but we still have the nicer film camera, and even we've moved on to digital because of the cost-effectiveness and the convenience we lug it around when we go to shows. We don't take too many photographs with it, but we burn film every once in awhile. Here are some of the photographs taken with that camera.

I love the "feel" of film grain, to me it just gives it more character....

Shoot The Loop 2009 vol.2

As promised here are some photos from Shoot The Loop...

Big Watcha's 62 Impala always looks good

Greg at the "driver's meeting" telling us to do anything we want as his and Mike Hubbard's places but respect the other stops.

Denny Gattis passsing us up on hwy 68 in his beautiful model A

Flip's coupe looks very sinister driving down the road!

They let me and Big Watcha lead, and of course we don't have a clue where we're going.

Rod Powell riding with Dan Woods in a pick-up worked on by Cole Foster, only in Salinas!

Nice jacket!

Greg looks on as Don Orosco gives us a little history lesson.

Don Orosco's son custom.

Part of the crowd admiring Don's shop.

We were off to our next destination, Baja Cantina in beautiful Carmel Valley.

Always foggy in this part of the peninsula.

Clark and the gang enjoying a nice cold one and a snack at Baja Cantina before heading to the Lazzerini Ranch.

Don in his nice little Rambler.

I jumped in with Eddie in his roadster pick-up, what a fun ride!

Arriving at Chualar Canyon, one lane road.

Mark Skipper's "Salinas Dragster" that he brought all the way from Fresno, Ca for the crowd to enjoy. Brought back many memories to a lot of the guys.

Just a few of the items the fellas brought for us to drool over.

The Lugan Bros dragster alongside a few old dragsters and a Bonneville streamliner.

The real reason I was there...

Some of the invited guests watching old films.

Photo-Op... The dragster was painted by Rod Powell (posing with the car) in 1968, and still looks great

The Lujan Bros and Rod Powell posing with the dragster. Larry asked Rod, "What sould I do about these little scratches on the side?" Rod answered, "You live with them."

Andy Southard still doing what he's best known for.

It was a great event, We will show more pictures on deadendmagazine.com soon!

Shoot The Loop 2009

Welcome to the official Deadend Magazine Blog!

Here we will keep you up to date on everything Deadend!

We'd like to start off with a preview of a small/exclusive event going down in the Salinas Valley/Monterey Peninsula for the first time today. For the first time the Payasos Car Club is holding a reliability/movie night, called Shoot The Loop.

Shoot the Loop will begin as a reliabilty run from Salinas California through historic highway 68, through Carmel Valley Rd, through Arroyo Seco Rd and ending at the Lazzerini Ranch where old drag racing footage will be on display.... The invited guests are mostly older former drag racers and car guys from the surrounding areas.

Here are some photographs of the Lazzerini Ranch as it is getting prepared for all of the guests!

Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for many updates here in-between issues
